I first heard of this concept from my sister. She had attended a wedding where the bride and groom had personalized and ordered their own coffee camper and chai bar. Instead of “his” and “her” alcoholic drinks, they had similar versions of chai and coffee.

Being an avid coffee and chai drinker myself, you can imagine how much I loved this idea. And it made me wonder what type of drinks I would offer if I had the opportunity to create such a menu. Could I design drinks that perfectly captured my essence? Hmm..

Off the top of my head, here are a few that come to mind:

Rose and Cardamom Chai

This is a “Janhavi” favorite. Everyone I’ve shared chai with is familiar with my love for elaichi with dried rose petals. There’s something soothing about the pink petals swirling amongst the brown powder. The refreshing taste, sweet from the rose, packing a bite from the cardamom, makes me feel refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to take on the next obstacle that comes my way.

This drink brings memories of Saturday morning farmers markets, as I would walk through Piedmont park, trying to find the best baked accompaniments for chai later that afternoon. Maybe this time, I would choose croissants over the danishes. Perhaps they would pair well with the colorful assortment of macaroons I had in the fridge.

Lemongrass and Cardamom…
